A happier You, A more connected society
and a brighter future.
About me - in less than 20 questions.
What is the importance behind the name Beyond20Questions?
I was born in beautiful British Columbia and have been perpetually pestering people with questions ever since. My nicknames included ActualFactual and 20Questions, so you can understand how my parents may have felt. However, I believe maintaining that sense of curiosity we are gifted with as children is valuable in helping us to solve problems and make novel discoveries as adults.
What are your qualifications?
The call of medicine meant leaving behind the wonderfully rainy west coast of Canada in order to pursue a doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona.
As the school's Chief of Bacteria Torture Development and Principal Investigator into Curious Tiny Living Creatures I was uniquely qualified in the realm of getting disproportionately excited over very small things. As part of a research team working out of SCNM and Arizona State University's Biodesign Institute, I had the privilege to investigate the prevention, control and treatment of multi-drug resistant bacteria and viruses through the use of botanicals.
How is your research background relevant? After all, I’m not a bacteria.
Well, I could make the argument that you are largely made up of bacteria and that bacteria are always relevant! Aside from that, my research background is largely relevant in that I learned how to ask better questions, how to get really stubborn in order to find the answers and how to evaluate research results more critically. In short, all the “blood, sweat and tears” I put into research helps me to answer your questions better too. In addition to my bacteria research in the lab, I work hard to keep up with the latest research on mental health topics.
What do you do in real life?
I’m looking forward to beginning my residency at Integrative Health in sunny Scottsdale where I will practice evidence-led medicine with a focus on endocrinology and mental health. We love our patients, our careers and our team and we sure know how to have fun!
What is your goal for me?
When we work together for a healthier and happier you, then you are able to share your greatest dreams and ambitions with your community. And creating more connected communities is my dream too!
